image tool
WebP to JPG
Convert WebP files to JPEG for software that still refuses WebP. The first thing the tool checks is whether the file has more than one frame, because JPEG can only hold one.
Add files
Drop WebP images here, or choose files. Everything stays on this device.
Waiting for files
Accepted input
- WebP images, up to 10 at a time
Limits
- Up to 20 MB per image and 10 images per batch.
- Up to 40 megapixels per image, checked before the pixels are allocated.
- Animated WebP is reduced to its first frame, and the tool says so in the result.
Local processing
- Files are read in your browser and are never uploaded to a server.
- Nothing is stored after you close or reload the page.
How to use WebP to JPG
- Add one or more WebP images.
- Choose a background colour and a quality value.
- Press Convert to JPG and read the notes to see whether frames were dropped.
What it does
- Detects animated input and reports it instead of silently keeping frame one.
- Fills transparency with the colour you pick.
- Confirms the result really is a JPEG by reading its header back.
Limits and things to know
- Only the first frame of an animation can be written; the remaining frames are dropped.
- Lossy WebP artefacts become visible JPEG artefacts after the second lossy encode.
- EXIF and XMP metadata are not carried over.
Example
Sending a WebP screenshot to a form that rejects WebP
Add the WebP, keep the background white, and use quality 90 for UI content. The result is a single JPEG that older mail clients and upload forms accept.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to an animated WebP?
JPEG cannot store animation, so only the first frame is written. The result includes a note naming the file whose frames were dropped.
Does the conversion lose more quality?
Yes. Decoding WebP and re-encoding JPEG is two lossy steps. Converting at quality 95 or higher keeps the visible difference small.
Can I convert a WebP with transparency to JPG?
Yes, and you must choose the background colour because the alpha channel cannot be stored in JPEG.
Runs entirely in your browser on ap98.com. Files are never uploaded.
